So well written and so well said! I've been spending a lot of time out in Karatu (between Arusha and Ngorongoro) since October and I often feel like a walking ATM. Unlike you - and you inspire me to do much better on the tolerance front - I've been getting really tired of it. (In fact I just blogged about it today before I read your post - http://www.worldrafiki.com/rafikiblog).

Your story about Mr. Cheaper Price is wonderful. I only wish there were more children like him here in Karatu. We have one named Charles, and I do buy from him or pay him a fee to buy things for my dogs. This is a side to Tanzanian culture that is definitely exhausting at times, but you can't help but continue to love the people.

Wow Anne, I did not know that the beads had gone up for them. And yet how much can you charge here and people still buy. It is so deeply worthy and so complicated with detail. You continue to inspire with your ability to stay the path despite all the obstacles!

Mind-opening and heart-breaking in the way we all need to have them broken to open further to the intense love and beauty all around us, even if we cannot se it everyday. Everything you write Anne makes me cry. I think because we seem so far from feeling/ giving/ sharing that kind of deep kindness, seeing the beautiful, rich able-ness we all possess. It is inspirational! As are you.

These stories are the ones that keep us feeling, and being totally aware of what surrounds us, not just in our immediate view, but stretching for miles, opening our blinkers to the lives of the many, not just the fortunate few. Touched my heart.....

Wow, Anne, read it out loud to our family this morning.Joe and I are in tears. So deeply moving. Joe said it is amazing and you are a beautify writer and it is a profound thing to hear someone searching for something as opposed to being connected to struggling. Leo clapped. Finny is sleeping. I am still crying. You are so inspiring. The work you are doing and have done and will continue always to do is so inspiring and filled with such beauty and pain and that they live so close it is hard to be so present. And there is nothing better. Thank you for being in my life, in our live, for teaching is.
